Woodland Explorers (K-1st grade)

During the lesson students become naturalists and begin to discover why the woodland ecosystem is important and how we can help protect it. Explorers investigate the animals that live there, from the tops of trees to the ground beneath decomposing logs. Throughout the lesson students learn exciting new information about the woodland ecosystem and build a foundation for stewardship!
Pollinator Heroes: Monarch Butterflies (2nd grade)

Your 2nd graders can help save the endangered monarch butterfly! In this lesson, students investigate the life cycle, migration, and habitat needs of the monarch and consider how they can help protect this important and fascinating creature.
Soil Stewards (3rd grade)

After this lesson, your students will never look at dirt the same way again! Students become scientists as they investigate soil’s unique properties, work in small groups to design and assemble healthy soil recipes, and learn how they can improve their soil at home or at school through composting.
Watershed Allies (4th grade)

Living upstream means our actions impact people living downstream. During this lesson, students will investigate the different ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and concerns facing the watershed as a whole. Through the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience, students will identify, analyze, and develop a solution to an issue facing their local water sources.
